Who we are
The Jumping Post (thejumpingpost.co.za) is an independent South African showjumping results and rankings website. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by SA Showjumping (SASJ). Our Information Officer is Jason Theunissen, contactable at privacy@thejumpingpost.co.za.
What we collect and why
- Competition results. Rider and horse names, classes, heights, categories and placings, taken from results SASJ publishes publicly. We use them to calculate and display independent statistics and rankings. We do not collect riders’ contact details, dates of birth or addresses from these results.
- Members. When you join: your name, email, the date you joined, whether you agreed to member offers, and which rider–horse combinations you follow. Your password (or older access key) is never stored; we keep only a scrambled (hashed) version to check it.
- Rider card photos. Photos you upload, with the photo credit you give. Photos stay private until we approve them, and only then appear publicly.
- Shop listings and privacy requests. The business or personal contact details you submit, so we can review and reply.
- Technical. To limit abuse of sign-up forms we keep a daily, scrambled form of your internet address, which cannot be read back. A single login cookie keeps members signed in, and your browser may remember your chosen region. To improve the site we count time spent and pages viewed: for logged-in members this is recorded against their membership (total time, pages viewed and last visit), and for everyone else only as anonymous daily totals per page. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
Children
Many riders are under 18. Under POPIA, children’s personal information needs extra care. We only publish what appears in SASJ’s public results. Memberships, followed riders and photos of a child must be submitted by the child’s parent or legal guardian, who confirms this when joining or uploading. A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to remove a child’s photo or listing, using the form below.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. The site is hosted by xneelo in Johannesburg, South Africa. Member contact details are never shown publicly. If you opt in to member offers, we send them ourselves; we do not hand your email to partners.
How long we keep it
Results data is kept for the season and for historical records. Member details and photos are kept until you delete your membership. You can do that yourself under Rider cards, or ask us. Privacy requests are kept as a record of how we handled them.
How we protect it
The site uses HTTPS encryption throughout. The admin area is password-protected. Uploaded photos are private until approved. We take daily backups, stored on our own server. If personal information is ever accessed without permission, we will notify the Information Regulator and the affected people as soon as reasonably possible.
Your rights
You can ask us whether we hold information about you, request a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how it is used. You can also withdraw consent to member offers at any time. We reply within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator.
